Climate Information and Resources for Educators
The page is meant to make available resources and sources of climate information that are specific to the projects I am working on right now. These include products from the Intermountain Climate Education Network (ICE Net), and products developed by myself and my colleagues at the University of Idaho. It is by no means an exhaustive compilation of resources at the University, in the state, or across the internet more broadly. There are some great websites that make more of an attempt to do so, please see the list at the bottom of the page for some great comprehensive resources.
Presentation given at College of Western Idaho April 26, 2013:
Integrating Climate Education Resources into your Courses
ICE Net Matrix
The ICE Net Climate Science Matrix is a resource developed for K12 educators. It organized climate science and climate change concepts into key thematic areas, breaks down concepts into teachable units, and provides links to websites, lesson plans, and other resources that apply specifically or have elements specific to that climate concept.
Climate Science Lecture Slides
These four power point lectures cover four key topic areas of climate science and climate change. They are available for educators to use for free.
1. Climate and Climate change records
2. Climate forcing and models
3. Anthropogenic climate change and human impacts
4. Climate change mitigation and adaptation

Introduction to Physical Geography (GEOG100) Lab manual
Our lab manual currently has 16 labs that address a broad spectrum of physical geography and science topics. Some of the activities could be integrated into environmental science, ecology, biology, geology, physics, math, chemistry, and other courses. We are happy to share this resource with other instructors for adaptation in their classes, but since we currently require all GEOG 100 students at the University of Idaho to buy this lab manual, please contact me ([email protected]) to obtain a copy.
Other Great Climate Science Resources for Idaho and the Pacific NW
Dr. John Abatzoglou, aka the Climate Guy, has a fantastic website, chock full of great resources. Check out the Inland NW Climate Tracker, the Westwide Drought Tracker, or his course materials for the climate courses he teaches, including lectures and assignments.
He also writes the Climate in the Inland NW Blog.
The REACCH project (Regional Approaches to Climate Change - Pacific Northwest Agriculture) is a multi-year project to understand the impacts of climate change on wheat production in the Columbia Basin. It is producing a lot of neat science, and also educational materials.
InsideIdaho is a geospatial data clearinghouse for Idaho spatial datasets, including the modeled, downscaled climate projections for the 21st century. It also hosts GIS tools to access and manipulate these large data sets.
